• Back online:
Well, after almost two whole weeks we are finally back online -- and man is it nice to be back It was a rough road getting the site up again and -- what's that? You want to hear about what happend? Well your in luck then, just read on my friend for the skinny
It all started when the server admin decided to put in a new harddrive to remidy space restrictions, but when complications arose, he did a clean install on this new drive and then proceeded to copy over the old data. However, as other sites began to spring back to life, our beloved site still wasn't working, so I emailed a friend at emuhelp. Five days passed without any word, so I decided to email the head cheese at emulation64, hoping for a response.
The next day I recieved an email from them both, and It turns out the emails I sent were lost in limbo -- around 300 thousand unsent emails had to be cleaned out of the servers que Luckly my friend emailed me, just to check up, and after adjusting a few settings the site came up! This was not the last of our problems though, as now I was faced with numerous SQL errors -- which turned out to be because well over 90% of our database was missing
A few more days passed, and at last the entire database was restored -- the site works! The site works! This excitement was short lived however, as upon closer inspection I realized that members were unable to login or even navigate the forum So today I spent an hour, updated some code, and solved this last dubious dillema! Which means now all should finally be back to normal
On the plus side however, the server is now updated with all of the latest software, including RedHat (Linux) 9.0, Plesk 6.0, and PHP 4.2.2; although no MySQL update yet (the one I wanted most) Ah well, at least everything is up and running again With the new server setup we will no longer need to worry about space restrictions, and things should flow a little more smoothly as well
Whew! Well, that's the tale of CPS2emu's journey to limbo land and back. My sincere apologies to all those who went through heavy withdrawls, unable to cope or find any other use for the net So now that you know what went down, here comes the couple of news updates that we missed
